Abstract

Character education in the family is the main foundation that determines the quality of children's moral, social, and emotional development. The role of parents as the first and foremost educator makes the family environment a strategic space to instill sustainable basic values. This study aims to analyze the importance of character education in the family as well as find effective parenting patterns based on theories and findings of previous research. This study uses a literature study method, where data is obtained from books, scientific articles, and relevant research reports. The analysis was carried out by examining the concepts, principles, and practices of character education according to experts. The results of the study show that families that implement positive communication, exemplary, and consistent discipline tend to produce more optimal character development. The discussion shows that values such as responsibility, empathy, and honesty can develop naturally through regular interactions in the family. In addition, democratic parenting has proven to be more effective than authoritarian and permissive ones. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that character education in the family must be carried out consciously, planned, and sustainable to produce a generation with integrity and high competitiveness.
