This study aims to evaluate the implementation of a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model focused on automotive waste management at SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta, as well as its contribution to improving students’ learning motivation and practical skills. This study employs an R&D approach adapted from the Richey and Klein model and involves 30 11th-grade students in the Light Automotive Vehicle Technology program. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires, and their validity was assessed using the Content Validity Index (CVI = 0.91) and Aiken’s V formula (0.85–0.94). This study found that the structured PjBL model, which uses used car parts, significantly improved students’ learning motivation (enthusiasm, independence, responsibility) and practical skills (welding, cutting, grinding, painting, assembly, and problem-solving) with an N-gain value of 0.68 (moderate to high category, p < 0.05). This model has also been shown to support the development of 21st-century skills. Experts have validated that this model is highly appropriate with an accuracy rate of 89.4% and is relevant to industry needs. Identified challenges include limitations in facilities, project materials, and time allocation. Overall, the PjBL model is an effective learning strategy that helps improve student motivation, practical skills, and work readiness in vocational automotive education.
